
TÜRKPATENT announces updated trademark classification list
Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) has revised the List of Goods and Services for trademark applications.
The changes were published in the “Communiqué on the Classification of Goods and Services for Trademark Registration Applications” (TÜRKPATENT: 2024/2) in the Official Gazette (No. 32758) on December 20, 2024, and became effective immediately. The list is named as "List of Goods and Services for 2024".
The revised classification list was developed in accordance with the provisions of the Nice Agreement and the Industrial Property Law (Law No. 6769). It reflects recent developments in commerce and technology, providing a more accurate and precise system for trademark classification.
Key Updates and Additions
The revised list includes significant changes and new entries across several classes. Notable updates include:
Class 9:
- Mobile applications
- Cryptocurrencies (software) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs)
- Humanoid robots with artificial intelligence, laboratory robots, educational robots, and security surveillance robots
- Charging stations for electric vehicles
Class 12:
- Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles
Class 37:
- Electric vehicle charging services
- Portable charging unit rental services for electric vehicles
Class 39:
- Travel arrangements and transfer services for individuals seeking treatment under health tourism, including services for their companions
- Services for arranging travel visas and documents
Class 42:
- Land vehicle auto expertise services, including inspections and reporting
Class 43:
- Accommodation and reservation services for individuals seeking treatment under health tourism, including services for their companions
Class 45:
- Astrology counseling services
- Spiritual counseling services
Examples of Key Additions
The updated classification system aligns with international standards and addresses the evolving needs of emerging and developing industries. Examples include:
- Class 9: The inclusion of “Cryptocurrencies (software)” and “non-fungible tokens (NFTs)” acknowledges the growing role of blockchain technology in commerce and intellectual property management. Similarly, the recognition of AI-driven humanoid robots and other specialized robots highlights the expanding impact of robotics and artificial intelligence.
- Class 12: The addition of “Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles” reflects the increasing prominence of aerial technology in industries such as logistics, agriculture, and surveillance.
- Class 37: The addition of “Electric vehicle charging services” and “portable charging unit rental services” addresses the rising demand for sustainable transportation solutions, in line with the global shift toward electric vehicles.
- Class 39: The inclusion of “Travel arrangements for health tourism” underscores Türkiye’s growing health tourism sector, with services now available for both patients and their companions.
