World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

World Intellectual Property Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for promoting the protection of intellectual property (IP) worldwide. Established in 1967, WIPO develops international IP policies, facilitates cooperation among member states, and administers key global IP treaties.

The organization manages international systems such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the Madrid System, and the Hague System, which simplify the process of obtaining IP protection across multiple jurisdictions.

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO also provides dispute resolution services, global IP databases, and technical assistance to countries. It plays a key role in supporting innovation, creativity, and economic development through a balanced and effective international IP system.

WIPO serves as a central forum for international cooperation in intellectual property, helping harmonize practices and promote the use of IP for economic and cultural advancement.
