WIPO Digital Access Service (DAS)
The WIPO Digital Access Service (DAS) is an international electronic system administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the secure exchange of priority documents and related application documents between participating intellectual property offices.
DAS allows applicants to avoid repeatedly obtaining and submitting certified paper copies of priority documents when filing patent, utility model, industrial design, or trademark applications in multiple jurisdictions. Instead, participating offices can electronically retrieve the documents through the DAS platform with the applicant’s authorization.
Under the DAS system, a first filing office deposits a certified copy of the application document into the secure WIPO database. The applicant then receives an access code, which can be provided to other participating intellectual property offices where subsequent applications are filed. Those offices may retrieve the document directly from the DAS system.
The service is primarily used for patent priority documents under the Paris Convention, although certain offices also participate for industrial designs and trademarks. DAS helps simplify international filing procedures, reduce administrative burdens, lower document handling costs, and improve processing efficiency.
Participation in DAS is voluntary, and each intellectual property office determines the types of applications and services it supports within the system. Applicants should therefore verify the specific DAS practices and requirements of the relevant offices before relying on the service.
The WIPO DAS system supports secure document exchange while helping applicants maintain compliance with priority document submission deadlines in international intellectual property procedures.
