Nice Classification

Nice Classification is an international classification system used to categorize goods and services for the registration of trademarks. It was established under the Nice Agreement and is administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The system divides goods and services into 45 classes—34 for goods and 11 for services. This standardized structure helps applicants, trademark offices, and practitioners to clearly define the scope of protection and to conduct efficient searches and examinations.

Although the Nice Classification does not determine the extent of trademark rights, it plays a crucial administrative role in the registration process. Trademark offices worldwide, including regional systems, rely on this classification to ensure consistency and clarity.

The Nice Classification is regularly updated to reflect new products and services, making it an essential tool for managing trademarks in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
