European Union

European Union is a political and economic union of European countries established to promote peace, economic cooperation, the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people, and the development of a single internal market. The European Union also adopts legislation and policies in areas including trade, competition, agriculture, environmental protection, consumer rights, and digital regulation.

The EU is supported by several institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the Court of Justice of the European Union. These institutions work together to adopt and implement European Union law across the Member States.

In the field of intellectual property, the EU has established harmonized legal frameworks for trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. The European Union Intellectual Property Office administers the European Union Trade Mark (EUTM) and the Registered Community Design (RCD), providing unitary protection across all EU Member States.

The European Union plays a leading role in international trade, innovation, research, digital transformation, sustainability, and intellectual property policy, making it one of the world’s most influential economic and regulatory organizations.
