Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK)

Council of Higher Education of Türkiye is the public authority responsible for planning, regulating, supervising, and coordinating higher education institutions in Türkiye. Established under Turkish higher education legislation, YÖK oversees universities and other higher education institutions throughout the country.

The Council is responsible for shaping national higher education policies, approving academic programs, coordinating university governance, and ensuring academic standards and quality assurance within the Turkish higher education system. YÖK also plays an important role in academic recognition, international academic cooperation, research policies, and higher education strategy development.

In addition to its regulatory functions, YÖK coordinates matters relating to academic staff appointments, student quotas, international student policies, equivalency procedures for foreign diplomas, and scientific research development in Türkiye.

The institution serves as one of the central authorities shaping higher education and academic policy in Türkiye and works closely with universities, research institutions, and governmental bodies.
