The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT) held the Vocational Qualification Exams for patent and trademark attorney candidates on Sunday, 21 January 2018. The examinations constituted the second stage of the qualification process required for registration as a patent and/or trademark attorney in Türkiye.

The candidates participating in the vocational examinations had previously succeeded in the General Qualification Exams conducted on 11 November 2017. According to the official information, 96 candidates applied for the patent attorney vocational examination, while 85 candidates took the vocational examination for trademark attorney qualification.

During the vocational qualification stage, candidates were assessed through written examination papers designed to evaluate their practical knowledge and professional competency in intellectual property law and procedures. The examinations focused on real-life application of patent and trademark practices, including prosecution procedures, legal analysis, official correspondence, and procedural requirements before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

TÜRKPATENT stated that the examination results were expected to be announced within approximately one month following the exams.

The attorney qualification examinations are conducted periodically by TÜRKPATENT to ensure professional competence among intellectual property representatives authorized to practice before the Office. The system aims to maintain high professional standards within the Turkish intellectual property sector and to ensure that patent and trademark attorneys possess sufficient technical and legal expertise to represent rights holders effectively.

According to the latest figures announced by TÜRKPATENT at the time, there were 1,481 registered patent and trademark attorneys in the official registry of the Office. The growing number of qualified intellectual property professionals reflects the continuing development of the intellectual property ecosystem in Türkiye and the increasing demand for specialized IP services among businesses, inventors, and brand owners.
