The candidates who successfully passed the general qualification examinations for becoming Turkish patent attorneys and trademark attorneys on 11 November 2017 are scheduled to take their vocational qualification examinations on 21 January 2018.

The vocational qualification examinations constitute the second stage of the attorney qualification process organized by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). Unlike the general qualification examinations, which consist primarily of multiple-choice questions, the vocational qualification examinations are designed to evaluate candidates’ practical legal knowledge and professional competency through open-ended written questions.

According to the announced examination framework, the vocational qualification exam for becoming a Turkish patent attorney will include open-ended questions concerning both national and international legislation and practices relating to patents, utility models, integrated circuit topographies, industrial designs, and geographical indications.

Similarly, the vocational qualification exam for becoming a Turkish trademark attorney will include open-ended questions focusing on national and international laws and practices concerning trademarks, integrated circuit topographies, industrial designs, and geographical indications.

The examinations aim to assess candidates’ ability to apply intellectual property law in practice, analyze legal and procedural issues, and provide professional representation before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The qualification system plays an important role in ensuring that registered patent and trademark attorneys possess the necessary expertise to advise and represent rights holders in Türkiye.

TÜRKPATENT organizes attorney qualification examinations periodically as part of its efforts to maintain professional standards within the Turkish intellectual property system and to support the growing demand for qualified intellectual property professionals in the country.
