Geographical Indication and Traditional Product Name Emblem Regulation has been published on 29 December 2017 and will come into force as from 10 January 2018.
The regulation obliges the use of emblem with the registered geographical indication. While the use of emblem is obliged for the local products of geographical indication protection, it is not for those protected in Turkey of the foreign countries.
It is prescribed that the emblems should be used on the products or packagings with geographical indication or traditional product name (also known as Traditional Specialities Guaranteed (TSG)) in accordance with the provisions of Industrial Property Law No. 6769. If emblem is not used with geographical indication or traditional product name, it should be used so as to be seen somewhere of the undertaking.
The standardized emblem formats can be obtained through the official website of Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (as provided here ). Where an emblem is to be used in foreign languages for the purpose of foreign trade, the equivalents in foreign languages to be provided by TÜRKPATENTwill be used.
The color red for designation of origin, the color green for indication of source, and the color turquoise for the traditional product names will be dominant on the emblems.
