The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office announced a new schedule of official fees applicable to patents, trademarks, industrial designs and appeal procedures, effective as of 10 July 2023. This amendment represents the second increase in official intellectual property fees introduced in Türkiye during 2023.

The revised tariff mainly reflects the increase in the Turkish VAT rate from 18% to 20%, together with adjustments made to state fees. The changes were implemented in response to continuing inflationary pressure and the depreciation of the Turkish lira against major foreign currencies, both of which significantly affected administrative and operational costs.

The updated fee schedule impacts a wide range of intellectual property procedures before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, including trademark applications and renewals, patent filings, utility model applications, industrial design filings, European patent validations and PCT national phase entries.

Key Official Fee Increases

Trademark Application Fees

The official filing fee for a trademark application increased to TRY 1,030.54 from TRY 760.00.

In addition, the official fee applicable to the third and each additional class increased to TRY 1,142.41 from TRY 860.00.

Trademark Renewal Fees

The official trademark renewal fee increased to TRY 3,162.29 from TRY 2,450.00.

Patent and Utility Model Application Fees

The official filing fee for a patent or utility model application increased to TRY 224.74 from TRY 160.00.

Industrial Design Application Fees

The official filing fee for an industrial design application increased to TRY 758.58 from TRY 550.00.

European Patent Validation Fees

The official fee for European patent validation in Türkiye increased to TRY 9,061.02 from TRY 8,910.00.

PCT National Phase Entry Fees

The official fee for PCT national phase entry increased to TRY 5,898.31 from TRY 5,800.00.

Impact of the Fee Increase

Despite the increases introduced in July 2023, the revised official fees remain relatively close to the levels announced earlier in the year when evaluated in foreign currency terms. This is mainly due to the substantial depreciation of the Turkish lira against major international currencies during the same period.
