The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT) has announced new official fees for patents, utility models, trademarks, and designs.

The new fees, which took effect on January 1, 2023, represent an average increase of 80%. In some cases, the increase is even higher, with some fees being raised by over 100%. Frequently paid fees have increased as follows:

  • Official filing fee for a patent or utility model application increased to 160 TRY from 75 TRY (113% increase approx.).

  • Official filing fee for a design application increased to 550 TRY from 270 TRY (104% increase approx.).

  • Official filing fee for a trademark application increased to 760 TRY from 380 TRY (100% increase approx.) (870 TRY for third and each additional class).

  • Official filing fee for European patent validations increased to 8.910 TRY from 4.640 TRY (92% increase approx.).

  • Official filing fee for PCT national phase entries increased to 5.800 TRY from 3.020 TRY (92% increase approx.).

The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office has altered its fee structure for trademark applications, now charging different amounts based on the number of classes. Previously, a uniform fee applied to each class, but starting in 2023, the fee for the first two classes remains unchanged while fees for the third and additional classes will be higher.

The high official fee increases are a result of the severe inflation (80%) in the Turkish economy. The official fees in Turkey are reviewed and announced annually, effective January 1st each year.
